Droid X2 Available May 19

May 18, 2011

Starting tomorrow, those with Droid fever can get their fix with a new Droid X2, available online and then in stores May 26.

This will be Verizon Wireless’ first with a dual-core 1 GHz processor. Also on board: Adobe Flash Player, an 8-megapixel camera with continuous autofocus and HD video capture (the latter two features also on its predecessor). It will also have Mobile Hotspot capability, which allows you to share your 3G connection with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

The Droid X debuted in June and this version isn’t so different from it.

The Motorola smartphone will cost $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement and a data package from Verizon, beginning at $29.99. Voice plans start at $39.99.

The Droid X2 will begin with Android 2.2, but will be updated to 2.3. It’ll come with the usual Google Mobile Services, such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search and Google Maps.

It has another feature present on the Droid X: hooking up with an even bigger screen. If the giant 4.3-inch scratch-resistant and anti-reflective qHD display isn’t satisfactory enough to watch videos, photos, movies and TV shows, the “Mirror Mode” allows for viewing and sharing to a TV via an HDMI output.

Some other features:

  • Enterprise-ready with security and IT-grade policies
  • Virtual QWERTY keyboard featuring SWYPE technology
  • Gallery app for viewing, tagging and posting photos on sites like Flickr and Facebook, all from one place
